GETTING THERE
Loro Ciuffenna (pop. <4,700 for the township) is about 30 minutes south of Florence, east of Montevarchi from the Valdarno exit from A1 (Autostrada del Sole) - detailed directions from A1 below.  If you prefer taking the train - the Montevarchi (Diretto/Regionale trains) station is about 15 minutes away.

BACKGROUND
The name Loro Ciuffenna is derived from the original "Loro" which refers to the mountain laurel found in the area and Ciuffenna, added in the 1860s which refers to the abundance of deer.

Loro Ciuffenna -  charming medieval town on the slope of Monte Pratomagno

One of the highlights on the scenic "Sette Ponti" Route

How to get there:

Auto: Directions from Autostrada del Sole (A1 - Firenze/Roma)

Leave the Autostrada at the Valdarno exit, approx. 40 km south of Firenze.

Follow signs to the village of Loro Ciuffenna, approx. 8 km. (Note: you'll go through two small towns, Terranuova Bracciolini first and then, Penna [a very small town], before reaching Loro Ciuffenna. Make sure you stay to the left in Penna (where the road splits).

Continue straight across the roundabout into Loro Ciuffenna; crossing the second (old) bridge takes you into the center of town; the new one is a bypass.

By Air or train: Florence's Amerigo Vespucci [FLR] and Pisa [PSA] are the closest airports; Rome's Fiumicino [FCO], Milan's Malpensa [MXP], and Bologna [BLQ] airports are also convenient - e.g. there's a shuttle from Fiumicino directly to Roma Termini and the EC/IC train ride to Cortona's Terontola station takes ca. 1-1/2 hours, where you can transfer to a local train to Montevarchi. If you're arriving by train, the closest station is Montevarchi which is on the slower (no ES or IC trains) between Firenze & Roma. (click here for the link to train timetables)
